What are termites?

Termites are small, social insects that live in colonies and feed on wood and other cellulose-based materials. They reproduce quickly, with some species capable of laying thousands of eggs each day. A single termite colony can contain millions of individuals, each with a specific role to play in the colony’s survival.

Termites play an important role in ecosystems by breaking down dead wood and other plant materials, but they can also cause significant damage to homes and other structures if left unchecked

Why you need an inspection

Termites are notoriously stealthy insects that can quietly feed on the insides of your walls, causing extensive damage to your home’s structure before you even know they’re there. By the time you find them, they may have caused hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of damage.

Because we use state of the art equipment, we can find them well before you can.

Given 1 in 3 homes in Sydney will be affected by termites during the life of the building, we recommend an inspection every 12 months.

What areas of your property do we inspect?

  • Subfloor: If there is enough room below your house, we conduct a thorough inspection in this area as this is likely the first point of entry of subterranean termites
  • Roof Void: Inspected using Thermal Imaging, Moisture Meters and sounding devices – as well as visual inspections.
  • Interior: We go around to all your skirtings, architraves, jambs and other timber material and inspect using our set of very expensive tools.
  • Exterior: Much like the interior, we survey any timber elements that may be a problem, including trees, stumps, landscaping, fence lines, stored items and the like.
  • Garages and Sheds: Our inspections are not limited to your home. We are happy to inspect attachments including garages, sheds any other structure we feel necessary.

Tools we use – Termatrac T3i

Termatrac T3i, endorsed by AS 3660.2 is the most accurate and non-invasive termite inspection tool available which uses radar technology. It helps us locate, confirm and track the presence and extent of termite and other pest activity. The Termatrac T3i is especially useful in detecting hidden termite infestations that might otherwise go unnoticed by traditional inspection methods.

Settled Pest and Weed Control are accredited and certified to use the Termatrac T3i, making sure we go above and beyond when it comes to termite inspections.

Tools we use – Thermal Imaging Camera

A Thermal Imaging Camera is a non-invasive tool that can detect temperature changes in building materials.

This technology can be used to identify areas of a structure that may be infested with termites. Termites produce heat as they consume wood, and a Thermal Imaging Camera can detect these temperature variations.

This tool is especially useful for detecting hidden termite infestations that may not be visible to the naked eye. At Settled Pest and Weed Control, we use Thermal Imaging Cameras to provide accurate and efficient termite inspections

Tools we use – Borescope

A borescope is a flexible camera that can be inserted into tight spaces to inspect for pest activity. This tool is particularly useful for detecting hidden termite infestations behind walls or in other inaccessible areas.

The borescope can capture high-resolution images and videos of the pest activity, allowing our technicians to accurately identify the type and extent of the infestation.

At Settled Pest and Weed Control, we use borescopes in combination with other specialist  tools to provide thorough and effective inspection services to our clients

Tools we use – Moisture Meter

A moisture meter is a tool that measures the level of moisture in building materials. Excess moisture can attract pests such as termites, which thrive in damp environments.

By detecting areas of high moisture, a moisture meter can help identify potential problem areas where pest activity may be present. At Settled Pest and Weed Control, we use moisture meters as part of our comprehensive termite inspections to ensure that your property remains termite-free.

By identifying areas of high moisture, we can recommend measures to address any underlying moisture issues and prevent future pest infestations.

What happens if we discover termite activity during the course of our inspection?
