About Ants

Ants are one of the most common household pests in Sydney, with over 1,300 species known to occur in Australia. Some of the most common types of ants found in Sydney include black house ants, sugar ants, and bull ants.

Ants can enter your home through even the tiniest cracks and crevices, and once inside, they can contaminate your food and cause damage to your property. While some species of ants are harmless, others can deliver painful bites or stings, making it important to identify and address ant infestations as soon as possible.

At Settled Pest & Weed Control, we offer effective ant control solutions to help keep your home or business ant-free.

Ants in your home?

Ants in the home can be a nuisance, as they can contaminate food, damage property, and even cause painful bites or stings.

Once they establish a colony in your home, they can be difficult to eliminate without professional help. Ignoring an ant infestation can lead to an even bigger problem down the line, as the colony continues to grow and potentially cause structural damage.

It’s important to address ant problems in the home as soon as they arise to prevent them from becoming more serious and costly issues.

Ants in your business?

Ant infestations can have a significant impact on your business reputation, especially if you operate in the food or hospitality industry. Ants can contaminate food and create an unhygienic environment, leading to customer complaints, loss of business, and damage to your reputation.

Ignoring an ant infestation can also result in the infestation spreading, making it more difficult and expensive to control in the long run. Therefore, it’s crucial to address any ant problems as soon as possible to avoid potential damage to your business and reputation.

At Settled Pest and Weed Control, we offer effective ant control solutions tailored to your business needs to help protect your reputation and keep your customers happy.

Signs of an Ant Infestation

  • Piles of dirt or sand, especially near pavement or walkways
  • Small dips or holes in pavement, soil and beloved turf caused by ants burrowing
  • Presence of ant nests, which can appear as mounds of dirt or small holes in the ground
  • Unusual amounts of ant activity, particularly near food sources or areas with moisture
  • Finding discarded wings or dead ants, which can indicate the presence of a mature ant colony
  • Rustling sounds coming from inside walls or other hidden spaces where ants may be present

How do we take care of your Ant problem?

When treating an ant infestation, we use a variety of techniques to effectively eliminate the colony. We first identify the problem ant – and bait based on the particular ant’s feeding habit depending on whether the ant is a sugar or oil based feeder.
Non-repellent products, such as baits, are highly effective as they allow ants to take the product back to the colony and share it with other ants, ultimately leading to colony elimination. Baiting works by disrupting the ant’s communication and feeding patterns, causing the colony to weaken and eventually collapse. In addition to baits, we may also use dusts or sprays to target specific areas or as a complementary treatment.
Our methods are safe and effective, and our experienced technicians will tailor a treatment plan to suit your specific ant infestation. Call us now!

What to expect after treatment?

After an ant treatment, it’s important to be patient as it can take some time for the colony to be eliminated. Pest Controllers that promise an instant, knock down approach to Ants are often called back as they have failed to eliminate the colony, rather they have eliminated workers that are foraging which are soon replaced by the Queen.

You may still see ants for a few days, sometimes weeks following the treatment as they return to their colony and transfer the insecticide to other ants. It’s also common to see an increase in ant activity initially as they become more active and search for new food sources.

This is a sign that the treatment is working and the ants are being affected. Additionally, a Settled Pest and Weed Control Professional may recommend regular follow-up treatments to ensure that the ants are completely eliminated.
